Since ages this small valley has been a mixture of a rich history of people, meetings and culture and a landscape which hasn't been spoiled by man.

Nature, made of spontaneous vegetation islands in a counterpoint of cultivated fields and wood, of little roads that have been runned for ages by the slow pace of peasants, of cottages, of working methods handed down from father to son, combines man and environment in single enchantment.

The history of this place is marked by the presence of the castle that, dark against the dusk, seems to wath over the entire zone also today. Montecchio castle, considered a defence by the inhabitants and representing a strategical fortress and a bastion againt enemies, was built in the IX century.

The town of Castiglion Fiorentino still hides underground the memory of its Etruscan origins. Standing between Arezzo and Cortona, famous towns of central Etruria, Castiglion Fiorentino has however several treasures which make a visit to its museum much more than a mere curiosity.

Therefore, various historical-cultural itineraries start from here and reach the greater towns that were positively influenced by the etruscan, roman, medieval and renaissance histories.
